    Binbougami Ga! Review

    by chad

The leading contender for best anime released in the Japanese summer of 2012, or possibly 2012 itself, would probably be Binbougami Ga! Literally translating to “God of Poverty“, this slapstick comedy of a show revolves between a high school girl with an unusually high level of luck that disrupts the world balance, and a God of Poverty who’s trying to regulate said balance but is always outlucked by the human girl.

Their brand of out-of-this-world comedy reminded me of Gintama, which I miss oh so much – situational parodies of other anime (DBZ, Doraemon, Lupin, etc.), breaking the fourth wall, fire-forged friendships, double act with the straight man and funny man, etc. This is a must-watch!

16-year old high school student Sakura Ichiko – rich, beautiful, intelligent, talented and blessed with a great body and nice rack, has caught the attention of the Gods due to her abnormal level of fortune disrupting the karmic balance of the world. They dispatch Momiji, goddess of poverty and misfortune, to fix the problem.

    The following screens ensue:

Momiji’s reading about Rurouni Kenshin! Lol

After their violent first encounter, Momiji finally explains to freaked-out Ichicko about their situation. Thing is, if Ichiko consents to having her fortune taken away, she’ll experience bad luck as the first step of turning into an averagely karma-ed human. An example for Ichiko’s upcoming events in life would be to fail at school, lose her house, get married to an otaku and have five children together: with the father and children having the same face as their dog lol.

Momiji POV while wearing Gadget of Misfortune: Scouter

Of course, Ichiko rejects the goddess’s proposition, and that led to the all-out karmic war between goddess and human. The problem arising from their dispute is that if Ichiko still rejects to have her fortune sucked out of her via Momiji’s giant hypodermic injection, she’ll continue to absorb the fortune of other people around her until those people run out of luck themselves.

Microsoft Rivals Apple with Surface Tablet

    by chad

Joining the tablet market bandwagon is Microsoft‘s very own Surface tablet, primarily designed to take on Apple’s iPad head on. This 10.6-inch tablet will come in two versions: Surface and Surface Pro.

The thing actually comes with it’s own keyboard and stand!

Surface will be suited for the everyday standard user – Windows RT, ARM Processor, 32 or 64GB, 31.5 W-h battery, HD Screen and USB 2.0 while the pro version would pack a bit more punch in every aspect, just as how businessmen and techie people like it: Windows 8, Dual-core i5 Processor, 64 or 128GB, 42 W-h battery, Full HD Screen and USB 3.0.

The question now is: How will this compare to Apple’s upcoming iPad 3 or rumored mini-iPad? Sadly, no conclusions can be made yet since first and foremost – we don’t know crap about the new iPad, and there’s only so little we know about this one. Let’s just sit our technical asses out until further info comes to light.

In the end, most people will buy the unit that will give them more bang for their buck – obviously. Processing speed, responsiveness, retail price, apps functionality and availability, screen quality, battery life, physical design and the types of networks it can access are usually the playing fields here. So the one that offers more while putting brand loyalty aside, wins.

No announcements has been made yet with regards to how much it will cost nor when it will be shipped to the world market, so just watch this teaser video for the meantime:

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Nurse Scene

    by chad

Come this October 26, 2012 will be the worldwide screening of the upcoming horror movie Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, based on the survival horror video game Silent Hill 3, and sequel to the horror film Silent Hill, which is also based from the same video game franchise.

Only able to play the original Silent Hill game, I’ve no concrete idea on how the story goes. So Wiki writes:

“Revelation 3D’s plot follows teenager Heather Mason, who discovers, on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, that her presumed identity is false and, as a result, is drawn to an alternate dimension existing in the fictional American town of Silent Hill.”

The plot sounds pretty promising. That said, I wonder how this will connect to the first movie. I can’t wait!

Watch this suspenseful scene from the movie below!

    Man of Steel Trailer

    by chad

Just a few days ago, the trailer for the upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel was released!

Unlike it’s two previously flunked predecessor films, I have a feeling that this will be a very awesome reboot. After all, Christopher Nolan and David Goyer, the very people who directed and written the Dark Knight trilogy, respectively, are also part of this project. The one directing is Zack Snyder, famed for directing 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch, among others.

Man of Steel is planned to be screened in theaters on June 14, 2013.

    Here’s the trailer:

Tags: Amy Adams, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, christopher nolan, Clark Kent, Colonel Hardy, dark knight, david goyer, Diane Lane, Dr. Emil Hamilton, Faora, General Swanwick, General Zod, Harry Lennix, Henry Cavill, Jonathan kent, Jor-El, Kevin Costner, Lara Lor-Van, Laurence Fishburne, Lois Lane, man of steel, man of steel trailer, Martha Kent, Michael Shannon, Perry White, Richard Schiff, Russell Crowe, superman, superman movie, zack snyder

    Hanasaku Iroha Review

    by chad

A warmly heartfelt slice-of-life anime that embraces real-life situations of tough love, family, work, friendship and finding one’s ultimate dream in life that you shouldn’t miss is Hanasaku Iroha! Those words may sound cliche, but do hear me out. My vocabulary hasn’t been at its sharpest lately. XD

I’ve been keeping my eye on the studio that made this anime, P.A. Works, for some time now since there isn’t anything they’ve made that I didn’t love to a great extent – animation and story wise. Of course, that includes Another, Angel Beats! and Canaan.

Plot: The story starts with the episode entitled “It’s spring, I’m 16, and I’m still a bud.Matsumae Ohana – living with her work and boyfriend-focused single mother hasn’t been exactly the most dramatic life she’d been wishing for. Taught not to rely on anyone even family (her mom’s excuse for being irresponsible), she’s able to become a mature person in her young years even though there’s a lot in life she has to go through.

One day, her mom decided to do a moonlight flit with her boyfriend, leaving Ohana at the hands of her grandmother who runs an inn called “Kissui Inn” in the faraway province of Yunosagi. Problem is, Ohana has never met her grandma since her mom and grandma has been on bad terms since.

Taking the sudden transfer of home like an adult, Ohana decided that it could be the chance to reinvent herself – to have that drama she’d been looking for. And just when she was about to bid farewell to her bestest friend Koichi Tanemura, he confesses to her thinking that this would be his last chance. Still, he decides to let her go for her sake, then runs away in tears lol. Ko-chan confessing to her made her think twice about leaving, but it’s as if she had a choice in the matter.

    The Zark’s Burgers Experience

    by chad

Ever since Zark’s Burgers announced their Jawbreaker Promos some quarters ago, I’ve been craving to try them out. Good thing that this Saturday opened a lunch opportunity for that – we biked to Gateway, Cubao and just commuted our way to La Salle, Taft via the LRT1 and LRT2 trains. Then it’s all walk from there.

Their limited promo by the way, is a triple-pattied beef burger smothered with spam, bacon and melted cheese served with fries and drinks on the side for just 150PHP!

We avoided eating there on the promo days (July 7 and 15) since the lines are just ridiculously long. We tried going there the first day, but got discouraged after seeing the photos posted by nearby dorm tenants on Facebook – even before opening, there was already a long line waiting across Taft Avenue!

30-Hour Japanese Language Course for Only 1990PHP!

    by chad

My sister just shared to me this awesome deal from Groupon Philippines: 30-hour Basic Foreign Language Course for only 1990PHP at Every Nation Language Institute! Advertised at 76% off, you get to choose one of the following languages: German, Spanish, French, Italian, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, and English. I’ll be enrolling in the Japanese course, of course!

The coupon is only offered for sale until 12nn of July 10, 2012 so you better get moving if you’re interested!

Click here to view the deal at Groupon.

I’ve been dedicating time and effort in learning Nihonggo by myself, but I guess enrolling in a class is the way to go. I sometimes find online resources to be hard to understand, and rather unreliable. With this, I’ll be one step closer in realizing my ultimate visit to Japan! :3

To go there, you could either take a taxi for the easy way out, or ride a jeep after getting off the Buendia or Ayala MRT stations. I’m not really sure myself on what jeep to ride, so I’ll update this post once I’m completely sure.

To-Die-For Sisig at Ate Fe’s Kitchen

    by chad

There are currently three sisig joints I can’t resist no matter what, with the latest addition having come from Ate Fe’s Kitchen! My buds and I originally intended to just bike around UP Diliman, but ended up having a hearty lunch at the famous foodie haven of Maginhawa St.

It’s located in UP Teacher’s Village, at the very corner of Maginhawa St. and Magiting St. Landmarks include Grill Queen beside it as well as a MiniStop at the opposite side of the street.

A plate of sisig with egg costs 95 PHP, a cup of rice for 10 PHP and a bottle of Mountain Dew for 15 PHP. Share that meal with a friend, and you’ll be enjoying one of life’s awesomeness for less than 80 PHP!

For the best sisig experience, lather your rice with the explosive sisig oil using the serving spoon and sprinkle it with hot sauce, calamansi and soy sauce. *Definitely not recommended to those with health issues*

This place is actually famous to people from the University of the Philippines, Ateneo, Miriam and Kalayaan College so you’d see students eat here often.

Before I end this post, I’d like to apologize to all of you for the picture quality I’ve been delivering on my posts – I don’t bring my DSLR that much on my trips anymore and bringing it on my bike trips is definitely not a good idea. Instead, I use my friends’ smartphones and whatnots to do the job. If my financial condition permits it, I’ll buy myself a decent handy digicam where I can shoot all the awesome places I want!

Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin Anime Film Announced!

    by chad

This is probably the most awesome news I’ve heard in ages: Kara No Kyoukai, one of my most favorite anime film series by Type-moon, is having its finale produced as a movie! With this side-story light novel turned to film, me and the fellow fans will finally get to meet Shiki and Mikiya’s daughter!

    From Anime News Network:

The “Type-Moon Fes. -10th Anniversary Event-” announced on Saturday that production on an anime film adaptation of Kinoko Nasu‘s Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin (The Garden of Sinners/recalled out summer) epilogue side story has been green-lit. The official website for the franchise confirmed the news on Monday. Nasu’s other Kara no Kyoukai stories have already been adapted into anime films which Aniplex released in North America.

Last April 2009, Type-moon changed the Kara No Kyoukai website whilst announcing that they would be doing the film adaptation of Mirai Fukuin, and will be released on December 29, 2000. It was obviously an April Fool’s joke unless time moves backwards lol. But I guess it’s gonna be a dream come true pretty soon now!

Will keep you guys updated about this. ^_^
