    Boracay Sabbatical

    by chad

Last week of August- me, big bro and his friends took a 4-day vacation at Boracay Beach. Finally, I was able to go there for the first time after all the luscious stories I’ve heard from friends. I wasn’t really keen on bringing good ol’ 550D to the beach (talk about extra equipment hassle), but big bro insisted so. Good thing I followed him because if I didn’t, I would have died of frustration by not being able to take pictures of such awesome sceneries.

With regards to expenses, I was able to financially survive with around 8k PHP all-in: 1.5k for the round-trip  flight, 500 per night at the Sandacastle Apartments (it’s originally 25k/night but our friend knows the owner), 2k for food and amenities per day, then the rest for other travel expenses. If you’re planning on going, 10k would suffice- I saw in Station 1 some places to stay for 1,500 a night for two, so that’s 750 per person.

Anyway, enjoy the pictures! For the full album, click here.

7 Things I Hate About the iPad 3

    by chad

As I said in a previous post, I recently acquired a 16GB Apple iPad 3rd Gen with the help of a friend and his HSBC credit line. Not an Apple enthusiast myself, though I decided to give it a go anyway since I’ll get to know more about their side of the industry. But as I got to explore the Apple world and how they go about their business- software and hardware wise, the more I got frustrated in using the damn thing. Most people would consider this as a temporary culture shock coming from a Windows user, and they’re probably right, but I’ll blow off steam anyway. Microsoft loyalists who are still in the dark may be able to find refuge in this.

1.) Everything is in the hands of iTunes. This is what pissed me right off the bat. That all must pass through iTunes, meaning you can’t use your Apple gadgets like any other USB storage device. You can open and copy files from the “DCIM” folder with your PC, but that’s it. You sure as hell can’t put files in it. If you’re not importing music or movies via iTunes with the selected formats the gadget can read, you have to either convert them or buy/install an App that can open them.

2.) File management is so not cute. After having to deal with frustration number one, I found out there’s more. That the files you want to open with a certain app must be put inside that app’s location. For example, there’s Paulo Coelho’s e-book I want to read using ‘Good Reader’, so I put that file under the said app in iTunes. Now if I have another reader app like ‘Stanza’ and I want to read the same e-book with it, I won’t be able to since Paulo Coelho’s e-book is located in the Good Reader folder, and Stanza would not be able to access it. You have to put one copy in each app of you want to open them in both apps, doubling space intake.

3.) The Bluetooth feature is only limited to fellow Apple gadgets. Meaning, our iMac, iPhone, iPad or iWhatever cannot detect and link with other Bluetooth-capable devices if they’re not Apple e.g. Android phones or Windows computers. So I won’t be able to enjoy my iPad completely if my other gadgets are not 100% Apple? Thank God my phone is Android so I had to JailBreak my iPad and buy the Cydia App AirBlue Sharing for $4.99 to let me do so! @_@

Ano Hana Movie Confirmed in 2013

    by chad

More Ano Hana tear-jerking moments this 2013!

    Reblogged from The Akiba:

According to the official website, the movie of TV Anime Anohana (Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai, あの日見た花の名前を僕達はまだ知らない。) was announced and will be premiered in 2013. Directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai (長井 龍雪) who’s also the director of Ano Natsu de Matteru (あの夏で待ってる) and Toradora! (とらドラ!) , the series received lots of attentions. It was quite a surprise to see the movie announcement for the series since the main story was ended last Spring (of course, with a little inspiration of a second season or movie, as usual) and wonder what the director will bring to us.

And of course, fans will be hugely disappointed if the movie turned out to be something like a roundup of the TV Anime and guess the company knows this too. However, as you can tell from the following illustration on the official website, the movie appears to retell the story from Menma’s perspective. So far no other information was revealed and we will keep you posted about the story.

To Aru Majutsu no Index Movie Teaser

    by chad

Awesome news for To Aru Majutsu no Index and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun fans!

    Reblogged from Wikia:

Originally announced on October 2, 2011 during the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival, curiously on the same day as the announcement of the release of the 3rd light novel volume of Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index. It was later announced on June 7, 2012 that the movie has been delayed to be released on February 2013, along with a confirmed cast list and staff for the movie’s production.

Story: Academy City’s space elevator Endymion. One day as its completion nears, Kamijou and Index meet a Level 0 girl named Nago Arisa. Index and Arisa have a mysterious connection in their ravenous appetites. While the three are enjoying their time afterschool, Stiyl (who has brought in some other magicians) suddenly attacks. His target is Arisa. Why is a member of the science side like her being targeted by the magic side?

With the attack form the magic side underway, Academy City deploys a unit meant to maintain order led by its female leader Shut Aura. As the situation developing around Kamijou, Index, and Arisa grows more and more confused, Stiyl says, “That girl could likely cause a war between the magic side and the science side.

When science and magic cross paths, the story begins with Endymion as its stage!

Nescafe Chocolatte: New 3-in-1 Coffee Variant

    by chad

Anyone else who was able to try the new flavor of Nescafe’s 3-in-1 coffee? It’s called ‘Chocolatte‘, and as the name implies, it’s pretty much just wordplay to chocolate latte. The folks brought some home the last time they went grocery shopping, and it’s captivated me since.

I don’t know if it’s either my palate for brewery getting sick of our usual coffee, or maybe because of the fact I like chocolate – and that Nescafe was able to mix a wonderful flavor of both, but this is what’s going to wake me up early in the morning for the days to come.

Anyway, for 5 PHP a sachet, it’s so worth it!

The iPad 3rd Gen Unboxing, Purchase Rationale and Top Apps

    by chad

Seventh Messiah bandmate and long time friend James mentioned about HSBC offering Apple products with 0% interest, payable for 2 years, and that his brother got the New iPad (3rd Gen) with it. After looking at the 16GB version’s price, which is roughly around 24k PHP, I did the no-brainer math – 1k per month. He offered to swipe it (for the points maybe lol), and voila! I just planned on paying him 8k every 8 months so I’ll just feel the burden by a third.

We picked it up in UP TechnoHub a week after the omni-swipe. And just like any other victim of Apple’s conniving marketing strategy, I was forced to buy hella-expensive accessories to give iPad-sama the best protection it can have. And to reduce further financial damage in the future, of course I’ve jailbroken it the moment I got home.

So why buy this seemingly overpriced piece of techno-gadgetry?

To each his own, I guess. In my case, here’s the brief:

a.) Client presentations outside my home office. Compared to my 4 year old laptop that still needs A/C power to work, it’s faster to use, much more appealing and more convenient to carry around
b.) I love to read, but most of my stuff is in PDF format and I can only read so much when in front of my desktop, and in my room for that matter. It’s better to read and write outside at places where distraction is minimal
c.) The productivity apps look promising, and could possibly boost motivation and efficiency in handling my business
d.) The music apps interest me, and I wanna play around with ‘em, seeing that others use them in gigs and stuff
e.) There are certain platform games I wanna play that are only available for the iPad
f.) The 5MP HD video camera is awesome, I could use it as an extra camera for my personal shoots
g.) I’ve always wanted to mess around with an Apple gadget, being the Windows enthusiast that I am

Yolanda Moon & Paranoid City @ Saguijo

    by chad

After the last day of our Segway video shoot, we went to Japo’s gig at Saguijo Bar in Makati. Paranoid City was his band that night, and not playing as Valet Parking nor sessioning for PediCab. To my surprise, I was able meet and watch Cholo play again after God knows how long – he’s one of the first bandmates I had in our late graders. His new group is called Yolanda Moon, and plays a bit on the post-rock side of the genre spectrum. His other band, Ernville, whom I got to watch the last time, was keeping it low for the moment.

Having brought my camera with me, of course I took pictures. I challenged myself to a 50mm survival mode without flash and lights so longer shutter speeds follow. Blur tolerance is advised.

Dragon Ball Z 2013 Movie Teaser

    by chad

The rumored upcoming movie of Dragon Ball Z finally revealed its teaser trailer! It’s doesn’t reveal much per se, but the graphics and the impact this video made says it all. This 14th movie installment of DBZ is schedules to hit Japanese theaters on March 30, 2013. This will also be the first Dragon Ball movie in 17 years to have a theatrical release, not counting that stupid Hollywood jizz of a movie released in 2009.

    Dragon Ball’s Wikia states:

“The film is set during the 10-year time period between the defeat of Kid Buu and the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament (like Wrath of the Dragon and Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!). It is said that Trunks and Goten have a major role in the story. Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Vegeta, and Shenron also appear on the promotional arts for the movie.”

    Here’s the teaser trailer:

    Another Live Action Trailer

    by chad

Revel in delight, fellow Another fans!

The live action film adaptation of the 2009 novel-turned-anime craze this year is currently being shown on Japanese theaters since August 4, 2012. That said, it won’t take long for it to be released in BluRay after about a month or two, to be fansubbed a day after, and uploaded to the torrents domain on the same day! A little more patience is all.

Usually, live action adaptations of Japanese anime are known to suck rancid balls, but this one as well as Rurouni Kenshin actually look promising.

Let’s expect it around early October, then. For now, here’s the English-subbed trailer!
